2003 Annual Report:
Message from Board President and CEO
As a new year begins at Childrens
Hunger Alliance, we cant help but reflect on how proud
we are to be associated with such an exceptional organization,
dedicated to
improving the lives of children in the most basic of ways
eliminating childhood hunger.
Over the past year, we have accomplished
much and you will read about that work in this report.
The approval of funds in the state budget
reflects not only the dedication and talent of so many who
work with us, but also, most importantly, the worthiness and
importance of our cause. This funding will allow us to move
forward with our goal of expanding school breakfasts by an
additional 6 million meals and to extend our resources to
every school in every school district in the state.
Our
work with Action for Healthy Kids has resulted in the development
and pilot testing of a school-based strategy that strives
to impact the availability and nutritional value of meals
and snacks in schools as well as increasing the opportunities
for physical activity.
With support from the private sector,
we are expanding our health, nutrition education and fitness
curriculum for child care providers and are teaching preliteracy
skills to enhance school readiness statewide.
Childrens Hunger Alliance has accomplished
so much, yet as you know, there is more to do. 2004 should
be an exciting year that will include not only the fruition
of so much hard work, but also the planning and strategizing
of how much more we could and should accomplish.

We are passionate about our mission: "To
break to cycle of childhood hunger through education, leadership,
advocacy and services." Our confidence and excitement
about what lies ahead comes from our stakeholders, board,
staff, funders, volunteers, policymakers, educators and partners.
Your continued support and passion will elevate our mission
into a reality.
