2003 Annual Report: Public Policy
Ensuring that local, state and federal
policy makers keep nutrition programs accessible to the people
that really need them.
- Secured $2,000,000 in the State of
Ohios 2004-2005 biennial budget for the expansion
of USDA child nutrition programs throughout the state.

Advocated with Ohio policy makers for
adoption of simplified income and asset requirements for
the Food Stamp Program with great success.
- Published "Hunger in Ohio: The
State of the State 2003" and 88 county profiles documenting
the status of hunger in each county and how federal nutrition
programs were being used.
- Conducted five briefings for congressional
staff and state legislators on the status of hunger in Ohio
and Ohios utilization of federal nutrition programs.
- Convened coalitions in Cuyahoga, Franklin
and Montgomery counties focusing on improving participation
in and access to the Food Stamp Program. These coalitions
are working on local outreach projects, improved customer
service plans, and streamlined administrative procedures.
- Sponsored food stamp training in Franklin
County that were attended by more than 100 staff members
of community-based agencies and volunteer organizations
that work with low-income families.
