2004 Annual Report: Advocacy


Two boys from an afterschool site that benefits from Children’s Hunger Alliance’s AmeriCorps program have a holiday dinner at the 2003 Zooliday holiday party December 16th at the Columbus Zoo.

Ensuring that local, state and federal policy makers keep nutrition programs accessible to the people that really need them.

  • Advocated with Ohio policy makers for adoption of simplified income and asset requirements for the Food Stamp Program with great success.
  • Published "Hunger in Ohio: The State of the State 2004" and 88 county profiles documenting the status of hunger in each county and how federal nutrition programs were being used.
  • Advocated for the passage of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act that included Ohio as a participant in the Lugar and Fresh Fruit and Vegetable pilot programs.
  • Conducted briefings for congressional staff and state legislators on the status of hunger in Ohio and Ohio’s utilization of federal nutrition programs.
Our Vision and Mission
Our vision is that all Ohio children will thrive because of Children's Hunger Alliance's leadership and dedication to expanding access to food, nutrition education and quality child care. To achieve this, Children's Hunger Alliance must break the cycle of hunger through education, leadership, advocacy and service. That is our mission.
