2004 Annual Report: Introduction
Childrens Hunger Alliance is a nonprofit
organization whose mission is to break the cycle of childhood
hunger in Ohio.
Each day, more than 120,000 children go hungry nearly
500,000 are at risk of hunger. The physical, emotional and
psychological ramifications of hunger directly impact the
childs ability to attend and participate in school,
the childs academic performance, and ultimately, the
childs ability to earn an income and feed his/her family
as an adult. By Feeding hungry minds and bodies®,
Childrens Hunger Alliance helps to break this vicious,
self-perpetuating cycle.
Our
Child Care Works Ohio team, Childrens Hunger Alliance
helps family child care homes improve child care, enhance
preliteracy skills and school readiness while providing nutritious
snacks and meals to the children. Our Youth Development team
helps build safe, educational afterschool programs that focus
on highly-effective, noncompetitive physical fitness activities,
nutrition education, and the delivery of nutritious snacks
and meals. Through our Meal Connection and Advocacy, we work
to expand School Lunch and Breakfast programs, increase the
number of and participation in afterschool and Summer Food
Service Programs, and educate and advocate at the local, state
and federal levels on behalf of the children and families
we.
Our vision is that all Ohio children will thrive because of Children's Hunger
Alliance's leadership
and dedication to expanding access to food, nutrition education and quality child
care. To achieve this, Children's Hunger Alliance must break the cycle of hunger
through education, leadership, advocacy and service. That is our mission.
