School Breakfast Program Support

2004 Annual Report:
The Meal Connection

Ensuring families have access to the food they need.

  • Partnered with the Ohio Department of Education, schools, community-based organizations, the American Dairy Association, Ohio Action for Healthy Kids and many other local foundations and corporations to expand School Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, as well as afterschool and summer meal programs.
  • Assisted school districts across Ohio in implementing strategies such as Universal Breakfast, Breakfast in the Classroom, and Grab’n’Go Breakfast resulting in 4.2 million school breakfasts served reaching over 26,000 additional children and 3.7 million additional school lunches served reaching over 17,500 additional children.
  • Increased participation in the 2004 Summer Food Service Program by 53 new sponsors, 214 new sites and more than an estimated 8,200 children for a total of 200,000 meals and snacks provided to children in the summer. (Official Ohio Department of Education numbers were not available at press time.)

Our vision is that all Ohio children will thrive because of Children's Hunger Alliance's leadership and dedication to expanding access to food, nutrition education and quality child care. To achieve this, Children's Hunger Alliance must break the cycle of hunger through education, leadership, advocacy and service. That is our mission.
