2004 Annual Report: Youth Development

Ensuring kids a safe place to go afterschool where they can receive good food; fun, nutrition programming; and opportunities for physical activity.

  • Fed over 1,000 children 120,202 meals at 34 afterschool sites in Franklin County.
  • Reached 2,408 children with 1,004 hands-on nutrition education lessons in more than 90 classrooms, afterschool and summer sites in Cuyahoga, Franklin, Montgomery, Clark and Lorain counties through the AmeriCorps for Healthy Kids program.
  • Increased cardiovascular endurance in 80% of CATCH participants and increased knowledge in 75% with our nutrition programming.
  • Enabled more than 500 children to attend a holiday party at the Columbus Zoo and field day events at The Ohio State University and Camp Mary Orton.
  • Extended the Huntington IMPACT Program to include 32 faith-based afterschool sites receiving training, mentoring and technical assistance.
  • Expanded Children’s Hunger Alliance efforts statewide through the AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps*VISTA “domestic Peace Corps” program with 20 members serving statewide.
