On behalf of the Children’s Hunger Alliance’s Northeast Ohio region staff members, I want to welcome you to our webpage. We hope that you will find all of the information you need to become better informed about the important work that we do.
In Northeast Ohio, as is the case throughout our nation, communities are hard hit by the state of the economy. We feel the effect of unemployment due to companies closing their doors or downsizing resulting in the reduction of thousands of jobs. These challenges are clearly causing a dramatic increase in the number of hungry children living in the communities in which we work.
We, in Northeast Ohio along with Children’s Hunger Alliance staff members located throughout the State of Ohio, continue to work hard to ensure children are able to access healthy and nutritious USDA meal programs. Our School & Summer Nutrition, Afterschool Nutrition & Education, and Early Childhood Nutrition & Education program staff members are actively working with schools, home care providers, libraries, community and faith-based organizations to support access to and expansion of USDA school breakfast, lunch, after-school meals and summer feeding programs.
The Early Childhood Nutrition & Education program in Northeast Ohio is known as Care for Kids. The Care for Kids program staff members work with approximately 350 low-income providers in Cleveland who provide home child care services to approximately 1,750 children.
Despite our efforts, we remain in need of help from our communities. We ask that you consider volunteering at our agency, assist us with our development efforts such as running a Lunch Money for a Day campaign at your company, church or with a community group in which you belong or simply make a financial contribution to support our work. It is truly through the generosity and support of members of our community that we are able to make a positive impact in the lives of the children we serve.
Thank you for your interest and support of our work.
Debra Parmer
Vice President Northeast Ohio Region
