On behalf of Children’s Hunger Alliance’s Southwest Regional staff, AmeriCorps members, and board, we want to welcome you to our webpage. We hope that you will find all of the information you need to become better informed about the important work that we do.
In Southwest Ohio, as is the case throughout our nation, communities are hard hit by the state of the economy. Living and working in the Dayton area, we all feel the effect of unemployment due to companies closing their doors. These challenges are clearly causing a dramatic increase in the number of hungry children living in the communities in which we work.
We, in Southwest Ohio along with Children’s Hunger Alliance staff members located throughout the state, continue to work hard to ensure children are able to access to healthy and nutritious USDA meal programs. Our School and Summer Nutrition, Afterschool Nutrition and Education, Adult Nutrition Education, Early Childhood Nutrition program staff members are actively working with schools, home-based childcare providers, libraries, and community and faith-based organizations to support access to and expansion of USDA school breakfast, lunch, CACFP meals, and summer feeding programs.
In Montgomery County we offer our AmeriCorps Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities program to afterschool sites where our members teach hands-on, noncompetitive nutrition education and physical activity lessons to children. Please contact us if your site is interested in our programming! Our three AmeriCorps members impact approximately 350 children each year with these curricula.
In addition to the efforts of our staff and AmeriCorps members, we rely on the support of our community to fight childhood hunger in Southwest Ohio. We ask that you consider volunteering at our office or at one of our AmeriCorps program sites. In addition, there are opportunities to assist with our regional development efforts including hosting a Lunch Money campaign at your organization or participating as a sponsor or runner/walker in our Panerathon to Fight Hunger, held each April in Dayton. It is truly through the generosity and support of members of our community that we are able to make a positive impact in the lives of the children we serve.
Thank you for your interest and support of our work.
