As a volunteer, you can help bridge gaps between diverse populations, build lasting relationships, offer hope, create healthier families and healthier communities and have fun too! Whether you want to make a long-term or short-term commitment, there are volunteer opportunities for everyone. Current volunteer opportunities:
- Multicultural Initiative (Columbus) - We are looking for volunteers who can help our Multicultural Initiative team with language assistance in Somali, Vietnamese, and Cambodian. Opportunities are also available for volunteers to help with filing, fingerprinting, scheduling visits with childcare providers, and assisting with mock health and fire inspections. Cultural sensitivity and a willingness to learn are important to serve as a volunteer working with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- ANE Data Project (Columbus & Cleveland) - If you have experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), this project is for you! We are recruiting a long-term volunteer to assist for our Afterschool Nutrition & Education team 1 - 2 days/week. The ideal volunteer will be trustworthy, dependable, able to work with minimal supervision, and a quick learner.
- Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities (Akron/Copley, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, and Dayton) - You can make a difference by helping children learn about healthy eating and physical activity with fun, hands-on lessons. We are accepting applications for volunteers to assist afterschool classes lead by our team of AmeriCorps Members. This opportunity is M-F, with 1-hour lessons taking place between 3 and 7 pm.
- ECNE Data Project (Columbus) - We are looking for a long-term volunteer to assist with data entry and other computer-based tasks once or twice a week in our Early Childhood Nutrition & Education (ECNE) department. The ideal volunteer will be able to follow direction, maintain regular volunteer schedule, and have good attention to detail. Training will be provided, however basic computer proficiency is essential.
- ECNE General Support (Columbus) - You can help our ECNE office run smoothly by assisting with paperwork filing and other administrative support. No experience is necessary although knowledge of general office procedures is helpful due to the detailed nature of this project. Must be 16 years of age or accompanied by an adult.
- Office Support (Cleveland) - We need a few volunteers to assist at the front desk in our Cleveland office. Help is needed anytime between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional opportunities for weekend projects. Office experience is preferred but not necessary.
- Campus Coordinator (Dayton & Cincinnati) - Campus Coordinators will be Children’s Hunger Alliance ambassadors for their college or university and will work to create a Children’s Hunger Alliance chapter, educate their campus and surrounding community about the mission and services of our agency, work to increase advocacy and outreach for food access and health policy goals, and create campus events and volunteer opportunities to further the cause. The ideal candidate will be a current student at a college or university and can commit to at least one semester. Click here to learn more about this volunteer opportunity.
- Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator (Dayton & Cincinnati) - Neighborhood Outreach Coordinators will be Children’s Hunger Alliance ambassadors for their neighborhood communities and will work to educate their neighborhood about the mission and services of our agency, as well as work to increase advocacy and outreach for food access and health policy goals. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the neighborhoods in which they live and work, be interested in community organizing and advocacy, and can commit to at least six (6) months. - Health and Wellness Educator (Dayton & Cincinnati) - Health and Wellness Educators will work with Children’s Hunger Alliance AmeriCorps Members to educate children and their parents/guardians about the importance of nutrition, physical education, obesity in Ohio’s communities and a healthy lifestyle to break the cycle of childhood hunger. The idea candidate will be interested in food, nutrition, fitness and physical education, public health, and/or health education, and will enjoy working with children. Candidates must be able to commit to at least one full programming cycle of about 10-12 weeks. Click here to learn more about this volunteer opportunity.

Special Events Team Member (Dayton & Cincinnati) - Special Events Team Members will serve on a short-term and as-needed basis at special events and projects in the community, including health fairs, conferences, fundraising and promotional events, and other health, education, and advocacy events. Ideal candidates will be interested in learning more about Children’s Hunger Alliance and will be interested in being involved in their community on a more limited and short-term basis.
