Public Policy Department
Children's Hunger Alliance knows education of elected officials, policymakers, the corporate community, local
communities, and faith-based organizations on hunger issues is critical to Feeding hungry minds and bodies®.
The result of our efforts is that more children and families are being reached with nutrition and education.
The Public Policy
Department tracks and analyzes proposed legislation and rule changes at the state and federal level and makes
recommendations to policymakers.
Accomplishments
Responsible for legislation requiring schools to offer School Breakfast if 1/5 or more of the children
are low-income.
Succeeded in leveraging state support to provide additional financial resources to help schools
operate School Breakfast programs.
Instrumental in securing regulatory changes that ease access to Food Stamps for low-income working
families.
Convenes regular legislative briefings and community forums around child nutrition issues focused
on hunger and access to food.
Publishes and distributes literature to assist the community in understanding and becoming engaged
in solutions to end childhood hunger, including:
The Annual Hunger in Ohio: The State of the State profiles of Ohio's all 88 counties, outlining participation
in nutrition programs
