Instructing Metropolitan Professionals About Community Teaching

The IMPACT partnership
increases the quantity and quality of afterschool programs in Franklin County and helps Children's Hunger Alliance
strive towards its mission of Feeding hungry minds and bodies®.
Children’s Hunger Alliance and Huntington Bank, as architects and financers of IMPACT, have partnered
with area faith-based afterschool programs to form the IMPACT partnership. The IMPACT partnership works to build
the capacity of afterschool programs through mini-grants, quarterly development training, and technical assistance
visits:
- Mini-grants are presented to the afterschool program at its time of initiation into the IMPACT
partnership. This is unrestricted funding that, in the past, has been used to purchase curriculum, fund field trips
and provide general resources for the children and staff.
- Quarterly trainings are provided to the IMPACT partners. The trainings usually last four hours
with lunch provided. Past training topics include: Business Plan Basics; Behavior Management; Staffing Resources;
and Grant Writing for Faith-Based Organizations. We encourage input on desired training topics for future trainings.
- Each partner afterschool program will receive up to six technical assistance visits per year. During
technical assistance visits, Children's Hunger Alliance staff will work one-on-one with the program director and
frontline staff to identify the individual needs of their program. Addressing this need together, technical assistance
visits have provided solutions for a whole spectrum of wants, from the development of a business plan to the acquisition
of funding, tools, and staffing needed to create a community garden project.
The IMPACT partnership began in 2001 with the initiation of ten afterschool programs. In 2004, the IMPACT partnership
engages 32 afterschool sites in Franklin County. With the addition of five new sites each year, the IMPACT partnership
has plenty of room to grow!
