Empty Bowls

It’s great to have artists of all ages involved in Feeding hungry minds and bodies®. That is what an Empty Bowls campaign can do.

Though there are may variations on the Empty Bowls campaign, they basically run as follows:

  1. Generally artists, through a YMCA class, an art class at school, 4-H club, afterschool program, or other organized program, model bowls out of clay, decorate the bowls, and fire them.
  2. The bowls are then sold to raise money for Children’s Hunger Alliance. The bowl sales are generally:
    • held in conjunction with a school event such as an art show, concert, or sports banquet;
    • held at a local business during lunch;
    • sold along with a bowl of soup, or other food to remind the buyer that some kids have an empty bowl

These are really fun campaigns to get kids involved in community service and social conscienceness, and at the same time practice self expression and creativity.

M.O.M. was so great in April!
And when M.O.M. is great, that means we're able to feed more hungry kids with nutrious meals. A great big shout-out of "Thanks!" to Pesto Creative Italian Bistro for being our featured Menu of the Month (M.O.M.). And another great big shout-out of "Many Thanks!" to everyone who stopped in at Pesto to savor the wonderful selection of pasta, pizza and salads and remembered to mention Children's Hunger Alliance when paying their bill. Everytime that happened, Pesto donated $1 to the Alliance to help feed hungry kids. It's that easy for any type of restaurant to partner with us to help break the cycle of childhood hunger.
Do you know the owner or manager of a restaurant that would make the perfect M.O.M? Just tell them to contact Julie at 614-223-9200 and we'll do the rest!"
