Children's Hunger Alliance: Our Fight Against Hunger

Feeding hungry minds and bodies® is a simple, yet powerful philosophy. At Children’s Hunger Alliance, we believe that to break the cycle of childhood hunger in Ohio, you must prepare the children of today to be better wage earners tomorrow to ensure food security for their families.

To do this, Children’s Hunger Alliance begins by making sure there is plenty of quality child care available for all of Ohio’s children. We help Family Child Care providers start a business, provide them with technical assistance, and offer them professionalism training to obtain certifications, credentials and training that improves the quality of child care and prepares them to present preliteracy and school readiness curricula to the children in their care. We also assist these Family Child Care providers in obtaining meal reimbursements for the healthy meals and snacks served each day.

As the children become school aged, we strive to provide balanced, nutritious meals and snacks to children through 12th grade. Expanding the School Breakfast Program, increasing the availability of afterschool programs serving meals and snacks, and ensuring that the foods offered in all school venues meets USDA nutrition standards helps provide food security so children are no longer distracted by rumbling tummies or worry about when they will have their next meal.

Food security, improved nutrition, and physical fitness all support a child’s ability to learn. Better academic performance, enhanced by youth enrichment, nutrition and literacy programming we provide in afterschool programs, prepare the children of this generation to be better wage earners and to provide food security for the next generation.

As you learn more about our fight against childhood hunger in Ohio, you will find that Feeding hungry minds and bodies® is more than our philosophy, it’s what we do.
