It’s
great to have artists of all ages involved in Feeding hungry minds and bodies®. That is what
an Empty Bowls campaign can do.
Though there are may variations on the Empty Bowls campaign, they basically run as follows:
- Generally artists, through a YMCA class, an art class at school, 4-H club, afterschool program,
or other organized program, model bowls out of clay, decorate the bowls, and fire them.
- The bowls are then sold to raise money for Children’s Hunger Alliance. The bowl sales are generally:
- held in conjunction with a school event such as an art show, concert, or sports banquet;
- held at a local business during lunch;
- sold along with a bowl of soup, or other food to remind the buyer that some kids have an empty
bowl.
These are really fun campaigns to get kids involved in community service and social consciousness,
and at the same time practice self expression and creativity.
