You and your friends
can be Feeding hungry minds and bodies® without leaving your
office, school, church, etc., by forming a HungerTeam. Support Children s Hunger Alliance s mission through a number
of fun and creative events that create community in your workplace and provide you a sense of satisfaction in performaing
community service and Feeding hungry minds and bodies®.
Here are some basic ideas for your HungerTeam:
- Wash Cars
- Have a Bake Sale
- Host a Dinner
- Sell Candy, Candles, Fruit, or Doughnuts
- Have a Garage Sale
- Hold a Raffle
- Do a monthly collection
- Have a rock-, walk-, bowl-, or jog-a-thon
- Sell Cookbooks with employee recipes
HungerTeam events are very successful when coupled with dress-down days, holidays or other calendar event. Below
is a calendar of some holidays or food/hunger oriented dates that your HungerTeam can couple their event.
January
- New Year’s Day: Make a resolution to participate in one Hunger Team project per month!
- Oatmeal Month: Serve employees an old-fashioned breakfast one day. Donate proceeds to Children’s
Hunger Alliance.
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: Honor Dr. King’s memory by raising money to feed hungry kids.
February
- Cherry Month: Have a baking contest where the key ingredient is a cherry. Sell the desserts to
employees.
- Potato Month/Pancake Week: Serve potato pancakes in the cafeteria and donate the proceeds to
Children’s Hunger Alliance.
- Valentine’s Day: Sell roses, candies or cards to raise money to feed hungry kids.
- President's Day: Be creative!
March
- Pig Day: Have employees dress like famous pigs. Charge $1 to vote for the best costume.
- Frozen Food Month: Sell frozen pizzas and donate the proceeds to Children’s Hunger Alliance.
- Nutrition Month: Charge $1 to attend a company workshop where a nutrition expert is speaking.
- St. Patrick's Day: Need we say more?
April
- National Fun at Work Day: Hold a company carnival and donate money from the sale of popcorn,
peanuts, etc.
- National Poetry Month: Have employees read original poetry. Donate proceeds from coffee and tea
sales.
- Arbor Day: Donate a tree for children at an afterschool site to plant.
May
- Cartoon Art Appreciation Week: Hold cartoon drawing contests and have employees select the People’s
Choice Award winner. Raffle off the different cartoons.
- Get Caught Reading Month: Allow employees release time to go to school near their home or work
site to read to students.
- National Egg, Hamburger, and Salad Month: Feature these foods in the company cafeteria one day
during the month and donate a percentage of proceeds from the sale of these items to Children’s Hunger Alliance.
- Memorial Day: Provide a memory tree on which employees could honor the memory of a deceased friend,
colleague, or relative, by purchasing a card for $1 to hang in their remembrance.
June
- National Rose Month: Sell roses on Friday afternoons for employees to take home to their significant
others.
- National Flag Day: Sell flags of various sizes and forms (stickers, bumper stickers, decals,
etc.).
- Take Your Pet to Work Week: Most of us can’t take our real pets, but we could take photos of
them. How about a Photo Pet Parade with winners in the funniest, best dressed, prettiest, etc.
July
- National Hot Dog Month: Sell hot dogs several times throughout the month and contribute part
of the profits to Children’s Hunger Alliance. For fun, grilled them outside and have them served by management
or celebrities.
- International Joke Day: Have employees submit jokes for the company publication. Or compile them
into a separate corporate humor book and sell to employees.
- National Ice Cream Month: Have an ice cream social.
August
- Family Fun Month: Schedule the company picnic during this month. Designate the proceeds from
one of the games to feed hungry kids.
- Sweet Corn Festival: Serve corn-on-the-cob, with part of the profits going to fight hunger.
- Be An Angel Day: Make paper angels to sell.
- National Smile Week: Post pictures of smiling employees and have people put money in jars based
on who has the best smile.
September
- National Biscuit/Honey Month: Host a biscuit bake-off. Each contestant must bring a dozen biscuits,
and the ones not used for the competition will be sold to employees. Obtain small jars of honey to see to go along
with the biscuits.
- National Piano Month: Recruit a pianist who will play in the employee cafeteria during meals
and/or breaks. The person could take small donations to go towards Children’s Hunger Alliance.
- National Dog Week/Good Neighbor Day: Walk your neighbor’s dogs for donations for Children’s Hunger
Alliance.
October
- National Dessert Month: Every Friday bring in different desserts to sell to employees.
- United Nations World Food Day: Make international foods in the cafeteria going to Children’s
Hunger Alliance.
- Make a Difference Day: Encourage employees to volunteer with a Children’s Hunger Alliance afterschool
program.
November
- National Author Day: Bring in a local author to speak and charge a $1 donation to attend.
- National Game and Puzzle Week: Play bingo in the cafeteria. Have prizes for winners and all money
could be donated to Children’s Hunger Alliance.
- Pursuit of Happiness Week: Have employees make donations for something that would make them happy
such as wearing jeans one day or taking a longer lunch.
December
- Poinsettia Day: Sell poinsettias and donate proceeds to Children’s Hunger Alliance.
- Underdog or Unsung Heroes Day: Sell cards that people can give to their unsung hero.
- Wright Brothers Day: Hold a paper airplane-flying contest. Charge $1 to attend.
