School & Summer Nutrition:
Research & Analysis
Efforts in Feeding hungry minds and bodies®
must be coupled with research and analysis in order to show
the outcomes of our work. The Research & Analysis unit
of the School & Summer Nutrition team is working closely with the Ohio Department
of Education to collect accurate data on the number of school
breakfasts and lunches being served, attendance, eligibility
for free and reduced pricing, and participation.
These
numbers are utilized internally to identify areas of the state
where federal dollars are under utilized for school and summer
meal programs. We also can identify success rates of strategies
for implementing and increasing participation in program and
program delivery.
Externally, Children's Hunger Alliance is working
with the University of Cincinnati to evaluate the effects
of school breakfasts and nutritious lunches on the performance
of the children. They will be looking at trends in attendence,
behavior, grades, and standardized test scores to see if direct
links to behavior and performance to the implementation and
participation in the school's breakfast program.
