Afterschool Nutrition & Education
Feeding hungry minds and bodies®
can happen anywhere and Children's Hunger Alliance's Afterschool Nutrition & Education team takes up the challenge of providing
nutrition and enrichment programming to children in afterschool
programs.
Afterschool
programs across Ohio benefit from the USDA
afterschool meal and snack reimbursement program. Our
Afterschool Nutrition & Education team manages the reimbursements to
afterschool sites for meals served to children from low-income
families. In Franklin County, the Afterschool Nutrition & Education team
sponsors many of the afterschool meal programs in the area.
In addition to feeding hungry bodies,
Afterschool Nutrition & Education is also feeding hungry minds by providing
innovative and exciting programming to improve literacy, nutrition
education, and physical fitness. Some of our enrichment opportunities
include:
Youth
who participate in our Afterschool Nutrition & Education enrichment
programming:
- are more likely to have diets that
meet the recommended daily allowance for all key nutrients;
- arrive at school on time, attend school
more regularly, and are more likely to pass on to the next
grade than their peers; and,
- are more likely to pass the 4th and
6th grade proficiency tests than their peers.
