GIANT EAGLE AND HUNTINGTON BANK JOIN ABC 6 AND FOX 28 FOR “A CALL TO END HUNGER” BENEFITING CHILDREN’S HUNGER ALLIANCE
COLUMBUS, OH – On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, Children’s Hunger Alliance, a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Ohio, will be the beneficiary of “A Call to End Hunger”, a telethon on Central Ohio’s ABC 6 and FOX28 in partnership with Giant Eagle and Huntington Bank.
More than 1 in 5 children in central Ohio live in food-insecure households and do not receive the nutritious food they need to thrive. Children’s Hunger Alliance works with child care providers, local schools and community partners such as libraries and recreation centers as well as the USDA and Ohio Department of Education to ensure food-insecure children receive healthy food, nutrition education and physical activity.
We rely on the support of the entire community to help us reach more at-risk children who are not sure where their next meal will come from,” said Judy Mobley, Interim CEO at Children’s Hunger Alliance. “We are grateful to Giant Eagle, Huntington Bank and our friends at ABC 6 and FOX28 in Columbus, who are rising to the challenge of childhood hunger in our community.”
“A Call to End Hunger” invites community members to join the fight against childhood hunger. Giving just $1 a day or $30 each month can help provide a hungry child with up to 3 healthy meals or snacks each day.
“At Giant Eagle we are committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and take our responsibility to combat hunger seriously,” said Giant Eagle Regional Vice President of Operations Brian Ferrier. “We realize that children are at a unique risk, given the negative implications of hunger on their development. That is why we are proud to stand alongside Huntington Bank and other community members help central Ohio’s at-risk children, and ask that everyone join us in supporting Children’s Hunger Alliance and its important work.”
In Franklin County, more than 60,000 children live in a food-insecure household. Childhood hunger has been linked to poor health and can lead to developmental delays. Children who sit in a classroom who are hungry struggle to concentrate and experience learning challenges which can have a lasting impact on their ability to succeed in school and in the future.
